State of the Wall designs custom wallpaper for a single room. We can put new colors on one of our patterns, draw a new pattern from your ideas, or turn a photo or painting into a mural. The design fee is credited back when you order the wallpaper.
Our Movements are curated for a lot of homes. A custom design is curated for one. It starts with the things only you would think to put on a wall: the lemon tree outside your first apartment, the tiles from a trip you still talk about, the exact green of your grandmother's teacups. We'll turn that into a wall that feels like it was always meant to be there.
What the design fee covers
The fee pays for the design work. That's reading your brief, sketching, drawing the final repeat and working through the changes it takes to get it right. When you order wallpaper printed from your design, every dollar of the fee is credited to that order.
Your credit comes with the final design, ready to use on your wallpaper at checkout. Go ahead with the wallpaper and the design costs you nothing.

New colors on a pattern you love
Found the right pattern in the wrong colors? Pick any design in the shop, like Olive Ogee or Orchard Bough, and tell us the palette. A paint chip, a rug, a photo of your sofa, it all helps. We'll rework the colorway until it sits right in your room.
A pattern from your own story
Your dog, repeated across a hallway. The street map of the town you grew up in. The wildflowers from your wedding. Bring us the idea and whatever pictures you have, and we'll draw it into a seamless repeat that lines up from one panel to the next.
A mural from a photo or painting
A landscape you painted, a photo from the trip, your kid's drawing blown up to wall size. We'll scale it across the whole wall as one image and cut it into numbered panels that hang in sequence. Browse our wall murals for a sense of scale.

Printed on the papers we already use
Every custom design is printed to order in Mesa, Arizona, in panels 19 inches wide and anywhere from 2 to 18 feet tall. Pick the paper that suits the room.
LUXE Traditional
A heavyweight non-woven paper you hang by pasting the wall. The seams butt together cleanly and it copes well with textured walls. Pick it if you're staying put. How to hang it.
Peel & Stick
A thin, removable vinyl with a matte finish. It goes up without paste and comes off when your lease or your taste changes.
LUXE Peel & Stick
The thick self-adhesive option, with a matte luster finish and butted seams. Best on smooth or lightly textured walls. How to hang peel and stick.
What to send us
- Your wall measurements: the width and height of each wall, measured where each wall is widest and tallest.
- Photos of the room in daylight, so we can see the floors, trim and furniture the wallpaper has to live with.
- Your colors, as paint names, fabric swatches or photos.
- Anything you've been saving: screenshots, sketches, postcards, a Pinterest board.
- For a mural, the largest file you've got. Original phone photos are usually fine. Images saved from social media usually aren't.
Custom wallpaper questions
Do I get the design fee back?
Yes, as credit. Order wallpaper printed from your design and the full fee comes off that order. The fee on its own isn't refundable, since it pays for the design work.
How closely can you match a paint color?
Very closely, but ink on paper and paint on drywall never look quite the same, and your light changes both. That's why we suggest a sample of your final design before the full order.
Can you work from my own artwork?
Yes. Send the biggest file you have, and we'll tell you up front if it's too small to print sharply at wall size.
How do I know how much wallpaper to order?
Once your design is final, we'll use your measurements to tell you how many panels you need and how tall they should be, so you don't order more than you need. Our wallpaper calculator gives you a rough number in the meantime.
