Choosing grey wallpaper

Where it works

All five are murals, so each wants one uninterrupted wall. Cloud Line has no single subject, its evergreens are spaced evenly across the wall, which makes it the one to use where a door or a window interrupts. Emerald Fog is heaviest at the bottom, so it wants the lower wall uncluttered. Silver Saguaro, with layered horizons, works above a low bed or a sofa. Overcast Grove draws its leaves large and needs distance, a living room, or a corridor you look down. Clay Wash has no orientation and hangs anywhere.

Picking between the designs

Grey reads warm or cool depending on what sits beside it, so decide which you need. Cool greys: Cloud Line, Emerald Fog, Silver Saguaro, mist and silver with green underneath. Warm grey: Clay Wash, slate against terracotta and ochre, and Overcast Grove, a brooding sky over sun-bleached leaves. Then subject: forest for Cloud Line and Emerald Fog, desert for Silver Saguaro, tropics for Overcast Grove, none for Clay Wash. If the room needs calm, Cloud Line; if it needs warmth, Clay Wash.
