Choosing a wall mural

Where it works

A mural needs one uninterrupted wall and room to step back from it: the wall behind a bed, the end of a hallway, a dining room, a stairwell. Murals with a horizon, Cypress Haze and Pen Valley, have to be hung dead level, and they want width; the horizon in Desert Dusk runs low, so it works above furniture. Murals with no horizon, Lazy Lengths seen from directly above or Giant Petals floating in the dark, can be cropped at any edge and forgive awkward returns and doors. Vertical murals, Deep Pines with its trunks running straight up, add height to a stairwell or a tall landing.

Picking between the designs

Sort by subject first. Water: Bright Water, Hidden Lagoon, Lido Day, The Shallows, Quiet Pool. Landscape: Cypress Haze, Pen Valley, Blossom River sweeping toward a distant folly, Stone Statue on its riverbank, Rain Ridge, Low Cloud. Forest and jungle: Deep Pines, Hidden Firs, Neon Jungle, Pale Jungle, Emerald Fog. Flowers in the dark: Giant Petals, Bloom Below, Teal Petals. Abstract: Molten Seam, Canyon Wash. Then check direction. Blossom River runs from left to right toward the folly and Story Stream follows its stream, so plan which end of the wall the eye should arrive at; Stone Statue sits off-centre, so decide which side the statue lands. The scattered-figure pool murals have no centre and are the easiest to fit around a window.
