Wallpaper Calculator

The wallpaper calculator is a square-footage estimator that turns your wall measurements into a roll count. Use this guide to calculate how much wallpaper to order. Most installs need slightly more than the raw wall square footage to account for pattern matching, trim waste, and a safety buffer.

Step 1: Measure the wall

Measure the width and height of every wall you intend to wallpaper, to the nearest half-inch. Multiply width by height for each wall to get its raw square footage.

Step 2: Subtract large openings

Subtract any door, window, or built-in opening larger than 4 square feet. Do not subtract small features like outlets.

Step 3: Add a pattern repeat buffer

Add 10 to 15 percent on top of the net square footage to cover trim waste and pattern matching. For wallpaper with a drop match or a large repeat, add 20 percent.

Step 4: Convert to rolls

One State of the Wall double roll covers 56 square feet. Divide your buffered total by 56 and round up to the next whole roll.

For the full method including pattern repeat math, see our How to Measure for Wallpaper guide.

How much Wallpaper do I need?

Precision is the first act of care. Because our patterns are small-batch creations, securing your entire collection from a single "lot" is essential to maintaining the integrity of the design.

  • Measure Your Canvas: Record the height and width of your walls.
  • Calculate the Movement: Use the tool below to determine how many rolls you require. (Each roll covers approximately 45–50 sq. ft.)
  • For Murals: This tool is for repeating patterns. For murals, contact our team for personal guidance.

Measure with sincerity. Banish the boring.

Wallpaper Calculator

Enter the height and width for each surface you intend to transform. In our pursuit of a seamless sanctuary, the square footage of doors and windows is rarely subtracted from the calculation—unless they occupy a significant portion of the wall—to ensure you have the "thoroughly good" amount of coverage needed for your movement.
