Choosing forest wallpaper

Where it works

Forest murals add height, because the trunks run vertical, so they belong in stairwells, tall landings and the wall behind a bed. Hidden Firs, Deep Pines and Stitched Trees are the strongly vertical ones. Rain Ridge and Low Cloud, aerial views with no horizon and no focal point, are the most forgiving and cope with a wall that has a door in it. Story Stream, pastel trees along a winding stream, is the nursery and playroom design, and it has a direction, so hang it with the stream flowing where the eye should go.

Picking between the designs

Pick the light. Morning: Cloud Line, evergreens under a soft veil. Fog: Hidden Firs, Emerald Fog with the fog softening its upper half, Low Cloud, Rain Ridge. Dusk: Deep Pines in teal and indigo. Textile: Stitched Trees, with embroidered texture, and Blue Cypress in needlepoint. Fantasy: Story Stream. Then the ground: most sit in grey-green and emerald; Deep Pines and Stitched Trees are teal; Story Stream is pastel. Cloud Line spreads its trees evenly with nothing at the centre, so a window or a door in the wall does no harm; Emerald Fog puts its weight in the lower half, so give it a wall without tall furniture.
